Abstract
2727. Haddan, R., [Stokes & Smith Co.]. Feb. 19. Packeting by wrapping-up. - Relates to machines for applying wrappers to filled cardboard boxes, and consists of an improvement in machines of the kind described in Specifications 19,966/01, 19,967/01, and 8230/04, [all in Class 18, Boxes &c.], for covering boxes. The box, placed on the adhesively coated wrapper a, Fig. 7, is passed down through the wrapping- means between a platen 71, Fig. 1, and a plunger 28. All the sides but one being covered, leaving marginal edges a<3>, a<5> standing above the remaining side, the movement of the plunger is stopped temporarily to allow the edges to be tucked in by plates 96, Fig. 12, while the platen is gripped positively between jaws 46, the plunger then advancing to seal the edges. The platen is constantly pressed upwards by a spring 72 and, after the release of the jaws, rises to deliver the box. The means for moving the plunger, the wrapping-devices, and the jaws are all driven from the vertical shaft 41. The wrapping-means are the same as that described in Specification 2726/15, and in the main similar to those described in the above-mentioned Specifications.
