Changing apparatus.-A flash-light advertising device comprises a number of differently coloured lamps or groups of lamps which are switched on and off in a fortuitous manner by a number. of thermo-electric contact make - and - break devices connected one to each lamp or group of lamps, the lamps being so coloured as to give harmonizing results in any combination. The thermo electric devices consist of two metal strips J, J<1>, Fig. 4, having different coefficients of thermal expansion, permanently in contact with one another, the lower one J<1> being surrounded by a heating-coil J<3>, which may be in parallel with part of the lamp circuit. The heating effect of the coil causes the strips to bend upwards and contact with a screw K<1> to complete the main circuits and light the lamp ; the drop of current in the coil then allows it to cool and cause the contact to be broken. The casing for the device has bars across the front with grooves on the upper and lower edges to receive the letters, slots being provided in the casing side for insertion of the letters. The letters forming the advertisement are separate, and each comprises two plates perforated to show a character and having translucent material secured between, one plate having its edges bent over the other. The face of the plates may be set back at one side to allow the contiguous plate to overlap.
