832. Sutcliffe, W., and Sutcliffe, J. H. Jan. 19. Cuttling. - In machines for folding cloth, in which oscillating knives fold the fabric on to a table bounded by slides, temporary means a re provided for connecting the front slide to the front knife for adjusting simultaneously the throw of the knives and the position of the slides. The forward knife blade 3, Fig. 1, has a slot 6 adapted to be engaged by a bolt 9 slidable in brackets in the forward slide bar 1. The slide bars 1, 19, Fig. 2, are connected by toggle-levers or quadrants operated from a hand-wheel 22 through gearing, so that the slides move in unison. The knife-bar is connected to an eccentric 5 adjustably secured by means of bolts 14 to a wheel 13 on the driving-shaft 12. To effect the adjustment of the slides and the throw of the knives, the bolts 14, and bolts 23 securing the slide bars to the machine are loosened, and the wheel 13 is locked. The slides are raised, and the bolt 9 is raised to lock the forward knife. The hand-wheel is then rotated, thus moving the slides and moving the eccentric into the required position. The wheel 13 is then unlocked, the bolts 14, 23 tightened, and the bolt 9 and the slides are lowered.
