Abstract

86. Oliver, C. Jan. 2. Sheet-registering devices. - A machine for printing signatures or other matter requiring accurate location is provided with a transparent shutter carrying a copy of the block design or other marks and adapted to be moved from a position corresponding to the printing position of the block to a position clear thereof when the block is operated for printing. The invention may be applied to the machine described in Specification 29,428/12, [Class 100 (ii), Printing processes &c.], whereon a blotting-roll is provided, or to other hand-operated machines or hand stamps. As shown, the block C is carried in known manner on a spring-returned plunger B' and guided by vertical slots in the frame. Levers G pivoted to the frame support an ink pad casing D and are linked by bars F to a blotting-roll E, the ends of which engage slotted members H<2> carrying a shutter H of transparent material or open wire-work having the block, or other locating, design thereon. The depression of the plunger and block acts through links I to rock the arms G, whereby the ink pad and shutter are moved clear and the blotting-roll E carried across before the block reaches the surface to be printed.
