Abstract

24,279. Stanley, J., [Cockburn, H. H.]. Dec. 18. Piston apparatus for discharging receptacles.- In fire-extinguishers of the type described in Specification 8974/96, comprising a cylinder in which a liquid chemical is retained above a piston until required, the upper end is closed by a cover 4 provided with an outer screwed flange 6 and an inner one 7, on which a cap 10 is screwed. Between the cap 10 and a third flange 9, wax &c. is poured to exclude air. The cap 10 has a stuffing-box for the rod 13 of the piston 15. The piston has perforations 16 closed by a flap valve 18, which is pressed against the conical cover 1 in the lowest position of the piston. The piston-rod may be extended and soldered to a disk 22 soldered to the cover 1. The disk may be dispensed with. The piston-rod and the interior of the cylinder are coated with a composition consisting of 70 per cent of tin and the remainder of lead or one or more of the metals used in making solder.
