Abstract

[Cognate Applications, 2569/15 and 4064/15.] Protectors, securing; protectors, construction of.- Reinforced rubber pads are secured to soles and heels by nails, Figs. 3 and 4, similar in shape to nugget or bullet hob-nails, or by nails in which the head is formed by a collar f<2>, the heads being slightly less in depth than the recesses b in the pads, Fig. 1, and the base of the heads being substantially equal in area to the bottom of the recesses ; conical depressions e may be provided at the bottom of recesses to guide the nails during attaching. In a modified construction of pad, Fig. 2, the end portion of each recess is formed with a flange g approximately equal in diameter to the shank of the nail. Fig. 6 shows the preferred arrangement on the shoe of pads constructed as above described. The sole is covered with two pads n, k provided with raised studs n<1>, m through which the attaching-nails are driven ; the toe pad n is also formed with a ridge stud or projection o to prevent slipping. The heel pad is provided with grooves r, r' to enable sections to be cut from it when fitting the pad to the heel.
