Abstract
22,899. Andersson, A., and Carlander, T. Nov. 25, 1913, [Convention date]. Mines, marine.-Relates to mines adapted to float freely within certain limits of a given mean depth, and provided with means for adjusting the mine to the specific gravity of the water. According to the invention the mine is provided with a float for holding the mine at the given mean depth for a certain time after the mine is laid, to enable the depth-regulating device of the mine to adjust itself to the specific gravity of the water. In the form shown, the float 4 is attached to a stump 2 on the mine 1 by means of plugs 5 and a cable 7. A given time after the mine is thrown into the sea, the plugs 5 are removed by clock-work, and the mine sinks to the given mean depth, unwinding the cable 7 from a drum 6; a given time after this, the hook 8 is swung aside, and the mine disconnected from the float. The float itself is gradually filled with water through a screw valve g, and, after it is disconnected from the mine, it sinks, a weight 10 placed at one side of the float causing the float to sink in an oblique direction clear of the mine. In a modification, the cable 7 is released by a soluble plug instead of by clock-work.
