Abstract
21,985. Beckett, W. M. Nov. 4. Aerating.-In purifying sewage by aeration, air is passed into closed sewage tanks under such pressure that, after passage through the sewage, it retains a pressure greater than atmospheric, and the air together with gases evolved from the sewage is used as a blast for a steam-generation furnace, refuse-destructor, or gas - producer. The sewage, after passing through a detritus tank, is passed into closed tanks 10 having air-supply pipes 14 leading to a pervious bottom 15 formed of porous tiles. perforated plates or pipes, &c. The air and gases are led away by a pipe 20.
