20,879. Rhodes, F. J. Oct. 12. Dentifrices.-Dentifrices in powder, paste, or liquid form contain potassium or other alkaline sulphocyanide in conjunction with media of a substantially neutral character. A powder dentifrice may consist of 1 part of potassium sulphocyanide, 14 parts of precipated chalk, together with essential oil flavourings. Glycerin of tragacanth may be added to this powder to form a paste. For a liquid dentifrice, 1 part of the sulphocyanide is dissolved in 7 parts of spirits of wine. Potassium sulphocyanide may be formed by digesting together 3 parts of potassium cyanide, 6 parts of water and 1 part of sulphur, then adding 3 parts of water, filtering, evaporating, and crystallizing.
