Cables and compound conductors.-In electric cables insulated with tapes of paper or woven fabric, in order to minimize the effect of irregular contact between the insulation and the conductor or the metal sheath causing local variations in the potential gradient in the dielectric, the surface of the layer of insulation adjacent to the conductor or conductors is coated with a conducting-substance such as metal powder, foil, &c. The coating of the paper, fabric, &c. may be effected in various well-known ways.
