Abstract
19,568. Fawcett, Preston, & Co., and Lang, A. M. Sept. 9. Separate heater and evaporator apparatus ; progressive evaporators; vapours, utilizing for effecting further evaporation.-Apparatus for evaporating liquids, shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, comprises a number of separate superposed vessels 1 each containing a set of inclined heating-tubes 4, and communicating with a common separating-chamber 10 receiving the vapour and liquid issuing from the tubes. The unevaporated liquid is returned by a pipe 7 partly to the same vessel and partly to the vessel next below. The vapour is compressed by a steam-jet compressor 15 into the heating- space around the tubes in the vessels 1, the steam passing from vessel to vessel through pipes 9. Excess steam escapes by a pipe 10<a> to a feed-heater. The separating-chamber 10 is preferably arranged to one side of the vessels 1. as shown in section in Fig. 3. The vapours escaping from the upper ends of the tubes 4 flow past a baffle 18 into the chamber 10, while the liquid is received on a tray 12 fitted with a weir 13 over which a portion flows to pass bv a pipe 14 to the vessel next below. The pipe withdrawing liquid for recirculation in the same vessel is connected with the tray on the other side of the weir.
