Abstract

17,548. Siemens-Schuckertwerke. July 26, 1913, [Convention date]. Controllers, actuating-mechanism for.-Electric winding-engines are provided with means for preventing a quick movement of the controller handle at any part of its range of motion, and with means for returning the controller positively to the " stop " position at the end of the travel. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the handle s of the controller a carries a slotted plate 20, the slots being shaped so that the movement of the handle in either direction depresses a rod 24. A block 30 supported on rollers 29 on a rail 33 has two inclined slots 26, 27 engaging a roller on the lower end of the rod 24. The rail 33 is carried by parallel links 34, 35 and is normally kept in the central position between stops 38, 39 by springs. The block 30 has two racks 31, 32 normally lying free of a pinion 28 driven by bevel-gear from the shaft 19 of the winding-motor m. At starting, the initial movement of the handle s is limited by the lower stop 39, and the upper rack 31 is depressed into engagement with the pinion 28. As the motor starts, the pinion 28 is rotated and moves the rack 31 and block 30 sideways, the action of the sloping slots 26 or 27 lifting the block and rail 33 and thus leaving the handle s free for further movement. A pair of non-rotary tappets 40, 41 with bevelled faces are arranged on screwed portions of the shaft 19. As the cage approaches the limit of the wind, the bevelled face of one of the nuts engages a recess in the side of the block 30 and pushes it into the central position, thereby lifting the rod 24 and centring the controller handle s. In the modification shown in Fig. 1, the controller barrel is locked by detents k<1>, k<2> when the torque of the motor m is excessive. The motor m drives the winding-drum t through a differential gear, the planet carrier c being geared to a crank shaft k normally kept in the mid-position by a torsion spring f. When the torque transmitted is excessive, the crank k engages one of the balanced levers i<1>, i<2> and raises one of the detents k<1>, k<2> into contact, thereby preventing further movement of the handle s in the forward direction. In order to render the limiting torque dependent on the speed of the motor, the pivots of the levers i<1>, i<2> are connected to rollers acted on by cams q<1>, q<2> the angular positions of which are adjusted by a motor v acting in opposition to a torsion spring wand electrically connected to a dynamo n on the motor shaft. At the ends of the wind, the controller lever s is positively returned to the central position by a lever 8, rod 7, and lever 5 acted on by a cam surface on a nut 4 travelling on a screw 3 driven from the drum shaft. The limiting torque or acceleration is regulated by adjusting the tension of the springs f, w, or the length of the rods p<1>, p<2>, or by rotating or changing the cams q<1>, q<2>.
