The inductance may be shunted by a variable condenser 17 and resistance 18. The lead 24 may be replaced by an earth return and condensers may be inserted in the line at the transmitting and receiving stations. ' The coil 12 is constructed with the least possible amount of iron in the core and the smallest number of turns possible to give impulses of the required strength.
