Lighting burners by electric devices.-Apparatus for lighting a number of burners comprises a relay which closes two circuits, one through the primary circuit of an induction coil, and the other through a motor adapted to close a series of wiping-contacts so as to bring the igniter of each burner into the secondary circuit of the coil, one terminal of a spark-gap being mounted on the chimney or globe of each burner. In the arrangement shown, the closing of a switch 7 energizes the electro-magnets c of a relay, which attracts an armature b carrying contacts d, c adapted respectively to complete circuits from the batteries f, g through the primary circuit of an induction coil p and a motor h. The motor shaft j is connected electrically by an arm o<1> and contact o in the secondary circuit of the coil, and carries a finger k which wipes the contacts m, m<1>, m<2>, &c., each connected to a separate burner igniter. The spark-gap terminal q mounted on the globe r is of considerable area, and is provided with a wire t supported by an insulated block s. Pneumatically-operated gas valves such as x may be provided, and the actuating-plunger 6 may be operatively connected with the switch 7.
