Abstract
17,164. British Murac Syndicate, and Dessau, M. M. July 20. Block paving.-Relates to means for allowing expansion and contraction in block paving of the kind in which air spaces, closed at the top by elastic means, are provided between one row of blocks and another or between a row and the pavement kerb, or at both places. The invention consists in employing elastic closing- members of rubber or the like which are bifurcabed and provided with feet adapted to enter grooves in the sides of the blocks. The spaces d, Fig. 1, between the longitudinally-arranged gutter blocks c are closed at the top by rubber or like members having feet f extending from limbs c, and engaging the recesses in the sides of the blocks. The rubber is grooved at g and expanded at h as shown in Fig. 2, in order to enable compression to take place without unduly changing the form of the insertion piece, the flow of rubber taking place between the limbs c. The rubber insertion pieces present a vertical face to the kerb b and to the usual paving blocks a, the foot f on one side being dispensed with.
