In means as described in the parent Specification comprising a special key controlling the release of matrices alternately or successively from a number of magazine channels, the control is effected through means movably attached to the escapement reeds so as to occupy two positions, making or breaking connexion with the escapement actuating-devices. In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the cam-yoke 7 of the special key 6 co-operates with an arm 9 on a rock-shaft 8, which is provided with other arms 11, one for each of the escapement reeds 4 to be operated in sequence, independently of their individual cam-yokes 5. The arm 9 carries a gravity pawl 17 co-operating with a ratchetwheel 16 on a cam shaft 15, which is provided with cam-disks 14 actuating push-rods 12'pivoted on the escapement reeds, so that the push-rods are moved in sequence into and out of the path of the arms 11. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which the rock-shaft is dispensed with. The push-rods 12, shown as arranged on two adjacent reeds 4, are provided with a tooth or projection 19 to engage and also actuate a cam 20. The reeds 4 do not extend down to the cam-yoke, but are actuated through an intermediate rod 4<a> provided with a head 4b wide enough to engage both reeds; if the reeds are not adjacent, the head is correspondingly extended. To avoid the wear due to actuation of the cam 20 by the teeth 19, the cam shaft may be provided with a ratchet-wheel for actuation by a pawl on the intermediate rod. Fig. 9 shows a further modification, applicable to two reeds only, and in which the function of the cam 20, Fig. 7, is performed by overlapping inclines 24 on the push-rods 12, which are provided with a nose 25 to engage the head 4b and a stop 26 to limit the forward swing.
