Abstract
15,790. Shenker, I. Jan. 1, 1915. Pneumatically - operated fastenings; railway-carriage doors and the like, fastening automatically.-Relates to means for locking railway-carriage doors while the train is in motion and releasing them when the train is at rest, in which the bolt is projected by air pressure acting on a piston and is withdrawn by gravity. The bolt c is pivoted to lugs on a hinged plate c<1> which falls by gravity and is raised by a piston a<2>, the rod a<3> of which carries a channel-shaped head b<1>. Rods b<3> carrying antifriction rollers b<5> to engage the hinged plate c<1> are carried by a plate b<2> and slide in guide apertures in the head b<1>, the rollers being pressed towards the hinged plate by a spring b<6>. Compressed air may be supplied through a pipe a<1> connected to a pump operated by the carriage axle or to a compressed-air reservoir. When the supply of compressed air stops, the pressure under the piston is relieved by leakage through an aperture a<4> and the piston is allowed to fall. The piston may be arranged for operation by vacuum-producing means.
