Converters; ore and oxide processes; cast-iron processes.-Molten iron is refined continuously in the crucible of a blast furnace by arranging, in addition to the ordinary tuyeres 6, a series of oblique tuyeres 7, through which air is injected into the upper part of the metal bath. The composition of the metal may be determined by regulating the volume, temperature, and pressure of the blast. Tapping-holes for slag and metal are shown at 8, 9, 10.
