Apparatus with jointly-controllable drums; driving-gear for winding - apparatus. - The hoisting-drum of a power-driven winch for use in raising, lowering, and transporting loads by means of derricks is connected to the engine shaft by a free-wheel clutch, and the traversing- drums are driven through disconnectible reversing-gear. The hoisting-drum 1 is driven by a pinion 3 connected by a ball, roller, or other one-way clutch to the crank-shaft 4, so that by running the engine in one direction the load can be raised, a brake drum 5 being provided for sustaining the load. The sluing or traversing drums are arranged on a shaft 8 driven either by chain gear 12 or by toothed gearing 6, 9 according to the position of a clutch 13. These drums are driven in either direction, according to which gear is engaged by the clutch 13, when the engine is running in the direction opposite to that for hoisting.
