Stirrers moving in plane curves. - Apparatus for mixing and otherwise treating copra and other materials in bulk comprises a series of superposed tables b, b<1> which may be perforated and over which pass transverse or slightly inclined scrapers f mounted on endless chains and carrying at their ends rollers g running on tracks h. The blades are cut away in relatively staggered positions k, Fig. 2, so that the material is mixed as it travels along. From the end of each table the material falls to the next. Heating pipes or apparatus may be arranged beneath the tables, or the material may be sprayed with water. The tables may be concave in crosssection. Air is driven in by a fan s over a drying-apparatus u and passes into the casing through the floor w, which is provided with louvers 2.
