Abstract

10,030. Gare, H. April 23. Utilizing waste rubber. -- Old or waste vulcanized rubber is re-manufactured into indiarubber or ebonite goods by adding sufficient water or other suitable inert fluid to the rubber during or after grinding to bring it to a semifluid or pasty condition, and then moulding in this condition and pressing out the bulk of the water &c. prior to subjecting the rubber to the action of heat for vulcanization or reformation, for example at 300‹ F. After the pressing operation, residual moisture may be evaporated, with or without warming. Softening, hardening, bleaching, colouring, or like agents may be mixed with the rubber mass or added water &c.
