Abstract

9621. Webb, W. H., Brettell, W. G., and Adamson, A. J. April 18. Cooling air. - Apparatus for cooling air to be supplied to refrigerating-rooms &c. comprises a vessel a containing brine &c., coils b in which liquefied gas expands to cool the brine, and tubes c through which the air to be treated is circulated by an electrically - driven fan g. The air-tubes are of smaller cross-section than the expansion coils, but the total surface of the air-tubes is larger than that of the coils. The air-tubes run in a direction at rightangles to that of the straight parts of the coils b, as shown, and the coilsb are arranged in series between corresponding groups of air-tubes c and connected by separate pipes with top and bottom headers i, i<1>. The air to be cooled is drawn by the fan g through an opening in the fan casing n, and is directed through a bottom chamber e and one-half of the tubes, and descends from a top chamber f through the other half to an outlet h. A partition r in the bottom chamber may be pivoted to enable the air to pass direct from the fan g to the outlet h. The brine &c. is preferably kept in circulation by a pump k mounted on the fan shaft.
