9384. Genthiner Cartonpapierfabrik Ges. Dec. 23, 1913, [Convention date]. Bronze and colour foils.-Relates to the manufacture of foil from a composition of metal or colour powder or metal leaf, and consists in using a backing of thin paper or other fibrous material which serves as a support for the foil during its preparation, but is afterwards destroyed or 'broken down,' leaving the foil ready for use. A backing of thin paper saturated with a 10 per cent solution of sulphuric acid is coated with an adhesive and sprinkled with metal or colour powder, or a mixture of adhesive and metal or colour powder, or with leaves of metal. The coated paper is then passed over heated plates or rollers to destroy or break down the fibre of the paper, leaving the foil ready for use. The residual acid may be neutralized before the strip is coated, or the strip may be treated with acid after coating.
