Abstract

9284. Mehlum, C. April 14. Collapsible spindles and rollers.-A collapsible mandrel for the manufacture of fibre and like tubes comprises a cylinder 90 with a longitudinal slit, formed of metal plate and supported by ribs 95 connected by pivoted links 94 to bosses 93 secured to a central shaft 92. One of the ribs 95 is secured to the cylinder near one edge of the slit, the others being unconnected. Each rib 95 is connected by a pivoted link 97 to a sleeve 96, slidably mounted on the shaft 92 and connected by a collar 100 to an internally threaded member with a hand-wheel 98, adapted to screw along a threaded portion of the shaft. Operation of the wheel 98 to move the sleeve 96 towards the end of the shaft causes a corresponding movement of the cylinder, which allows collapse by overlapping of the edges of the slit,
