Abstract

9136. Samuel, H. E., and Tanchan, C. J. April 11. Tobacco pipes.-To prevent dust and the like from entering the mouthpiece of a tobacco pipe or the like when not in use, a casing b is inserted in the aperture or enlarged aperture of the mouthpiece, and within the casing is pivoted a rotatable member a the hole a<1> in which may be in alinement with the aperture of the mouthpiece or at right-angles thereto so as to close the aperture. The member a is pivoted at a<2> in slots b<5>, and pins d working in slots d<2> serve to hold the member in either position, a spring c maintaining the member with the pivots a<2> and pins d at the end of the slots. The appliance may be made of aluminium, silver, gold, ivory, vulcanite, glass, ebony, china, earthenware, &c.
