Abstract

Boat raising and lowering gear; davits. - A winch for raising and lowering boats is arranged to slue the davits by a lever s, Fig. 1, and pawl t working in a fore-and-aft direction and engaging a square - toothed ratchetwheel u. The wheel u connects with a bevelgear v, w operating a wheel x to rotate a chain i passing over wheels e, j, the wheel j operating a worm l meshing with a worm - wheel m on the davit n. The wheel e carries a hinged handle which is dropped into a slot in the end of the shaft which carries wheels d, e, the wheel d rotating the winding-drum. This handle is raised when the davits only are operated, while the chain i is removed when only the winch is in use. The winch also has a lever o operating a brake band b and a sliding lever r carrying a pawl p engaging teeth c on the brake drum. The davit, Fig. 4, has brackets a<1> fitted with sliding sheaves b<1> to carry the fall rope over the bends in the davit, while the bridle rod d<1>, which is supported by a band h<1> carrying pins or by a hinged joint, has splayed jaws e<1> and a shackle g<1> for a supporting- rope.
