Abstract

6777. Oatway, G. H., and Watson, T. March 17. Alarms operated by expansion of solids of the type consisting of a rigid bar and a flexible strip, which, when rapidly heated, expand unequally and close or open an alarm circuit, but when slowly heated expand equally and do not operate the alarm. The flexible strip consists of a bow spring e, preferably of repeatedly rolled or beaten silver, permanently united with the rigid bar c of brass &c. The ends of the bow spring e may be secured by solder in notches formed in the bar c. On a sudden rise of temperature, the spring e makes contact with a screw f, thereby closing the alarm circuit through leads d, j.
