Abstract

6092. Neyer, J. March 10. Dash - pots. - Consists in a combined spring door-closer and check, the checking-device of which comprises a vaned disk 35 adapted to rotate in oil or glycerine contained in a casing 1. The disk is rotated during the closing movement of the door, by the closing- spring 13 acting through a gear-wheel 14, pinion 24, ratchet and pawl 28, 30, worm-wheel 29, worm 32, and friction disk 37. The friction disk 37, prevents damage to the check if the door is slammed. The closing speed may be varied by means of a screw 38 which obstructs the flow of the liquid. The wheel 14 is provided with a gap 15 adapted to move opposite to the pinion 24 just before the door closes, to stop the checking action. To provide for a smooth reengagement of the wheel 14 and pinion 24 when the door is again opened, a wheel 16 of the same diameter and pitch as the wheel 14 is loosely mounted on the spring spindle 10 and in mesh with the pinion 24, and is provided with a slot 17 engaged by a pin 18 on the wheel 14. when the door is opened. the pin 18 engages the end of the slot 17 and thereby rotates the wheel 16 and pinion 24 prior to the re-engagement of the wheel 14 with the pinion. The mechanism may be carried by the casing cover 11 to facilitate inspection.
