4821. Mallock, A. Feb. 24. Ear instruments.-An appliance to be inserted in the ear to protect it from acoustic shocks consists of a body portion 1 fitted with a diaphragm comprising a vibratory membrane 5, wire-gauze stopplates 3, 7, thin celluloid spacing-washers 4, 6, and celluloid guard rings 2, 8. The elements of the diaphragm are cemented together by means of a celluloid solvent so that the whole forms a single unit which may readily be inserted in the tube 1.
