Abstract
4221. Stout, H. H. Oct. 30, 1913, [Convention date]. Charges, agitating.-In an ore-roasting furnace of the kind described in Specification 27,393/98, each rabble tooth is formed with two operative faces arranged in tandem, for moving the ore in opposite directions, and the construction of the series of teeth is such that the nett movement of the ore by the teeth varies progressively along the rabble arm. In the construction shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the front portions 12<1> of the teeth for moving the ore inwards over the hearth are set at an angle to the parallely-arranged rear portions 12, which move the ore outwards, the angle between the two portions gradually diminishing along the arm from the inner to the outer end so that the ' outward ' faces are masked to an extent which increases with the distance from the shaft. The angles between the operating- faces of the teeth are so chosen in relation to the distance from the shaft that, during each complete revolution, equal quantities of material are moved by all the teeth. The removable tooth sections 7 are formed with hooks 6, 6<1> for engagement with dissimilar flanges 5, 5' on the arm, this construction preventing the sections from being placed on the arm unless the teeth are facing the proper way. Differently-placed projections 9 on each section engage corresponding notches on adjacent sections and thus ensure assembling in the correct order, and differentlyplaced ribs 11 ensure that the arms on the ' inward ' and ' outward ' hearths are fitted with their corresponding teeth. The innermost tooth section on each arm abuts against suitablyplaced stops, and the series is secured in place by bolts at the outer end. The teeth on one of the two arms operating over a hearth are set opposite the spaces between the teeth on the other arm.
