Abstract

3891. Barker, J. H., and Birmingham Metal and Munitions Co. Feb. 14. [Cognate Application, 12,008/14.] Barrels.-Consists in making the gun chamber with grooves or with parts of different diameters from the cartridge case, so that, while effective support is given to the cartridge, the area of metallic contact between the cartridge and the barrel, and therefore the transmission of heat to the latter, is as small as possible. Fig. 6 shows a cartridge case within a gun chamber the diameter of which is greater than the diameter of the cartridge case except at the ends.
