Abstract

3653. Clive, J. M. Feb. 12. Safes and strong-rooms.-The walls of safes &c. are constructed of alternate layers of flameresisting and drill-proof material in which the rivets or screws are so embedded that the flameresisting metal plates protect their ends against blow-pipe attack. The drill-proof plates a, a<1>, a<2> may be of chilled steel, and the flame-resisting plates c, c<1>, c<2> of cast iron, the rivets b, b<1>, b<2> being made of the former material. Sheets of copper x or Siemens-Martin steel may be inserted between the series of plates. The order and number of plates may be varied from that shown, so long as fusion of the rivets is prevented.
