Abstract

2963. Jefferson, H. F. Feb. 5. Automatic-feed weighers.-In a weighing and mixing machine of the. general construction described in Specification 27,395/13, the feeds are cut off and the weighing-receptacles are discharged simultaneously by electrical means. On the axles d of the steelyards or weigh-beams g are mounted contact-pieces pa, pb, and as each weighing-receptacle sinks under its load, the axle d rotates and brings the contacts against contacts p1, p2 and p3, p4, respectively. The contacts p1, p2 close the circuit of a solenoid r, which then withdraws a catch o and allows the feed gate j to close under the action of a spring k. The contacts p3, p4 are in the same circuit as similar contacts on the remaining weigh-beams, and when all the weigh-beams have tilted, the circuit is closed and an a,dditional solenoid is energized. The core of this solenoid liberates a clutch member and, as described in the above-quoted Specification, the shaft n, common to all the weighing-devices, makes one revolution and by means of gear wheels y, x opens simultaneously the discharge gates u of all the weighing-receptacles. By means of switches any of the weighing-devices may be cut out without affecting the operation of the remainder. To increase the speed of the machine, the rotation of the shaft n may be arranged to start or assist the return movement of the weighing-receptacles.
