Operating doors by weights.-Relates to fireescapes &c. of the type in which a trap-door b and a ladder c hinged at f are connected by links k, m respectively to a rocking lever g pivoted at h, so that when the ladder is lowered or raised, the trap-door is opened or closed. In order to enable the ladder to be secured to any one of three of the four sides of the trap without altering the fittings, the link k is connected to the trap-door b and the rocking lever g by universal joints at l, g<1>, formed, for example, of inter ngaging eyes.
