Abstract

Vibration,-dampers. - Consists in mounting friction vibration-dampers within an existing casing on motor-vehicles, for example the casing of the brake drum or of the differential gear-box, in order that the waste lubricant may be utilized for lubricating the vibration-damper. As shown in Fig. 1, the rear wheel hub 2 carries the brake drum 6, which engages the brake cheeks 7. A cover 8 closes the brake drum and has projecting from its inner surface a casing 9 secured by screw bolts 11. and spacing-sleeves 10, a packing-ring 12 being provided so that a closed chamber 13 is formed to receive the waste lubricant from the bearing 4. The vibration-damper 14 is actuated by an arm 16, which passes through a curved slot 17 in the cover 8. In a modified form, an annular friction disk forms the vibrationdamper, being pressed by adjustable springs against the cover 8 of the brake drum. In a further modification, two vibration-dampers are mounted on the cover of each brake drum. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, two vibrationdampers 19 are mounted in the casing -18 of the differential gear-box, each vibrationdamper being actuated by means of a shaft 20 and arm 16 from the vehicle frame 24.
