Pistons (main) acting as sole valves.-In an impact tool or rock drill of the hammer type, the piston is made of two diameters A, A<2> with an intermediate constricted part A'. The cylinders B, B<2> are provided with admission channels D, E which are alternately put into communication with the admission port C by the recess A', and with exhaust apertures D<3>, E<3> controlled by the piston heads A, A<2>. The piston may have channels or passages in lieu of the constricted part, and the admission channels may open through the cylinder ends.
