Abstract

381. Montague, J. H. Jan. 6. Appliances for illuminating cavities.-A urethroscope of the type having an inclined mirror with an inspection aperture is provided with an independent aperture through which instruments may be inserted without obstructing vision through the instrument. The instrument comprises a tube a fitted with a lens l and a lamp c adjustable by means of a pin u working in a helical slot v. The tube a is attached to a socket d having a tapered portion e to which the urethral tube g is attached. The socket d receives a fitting h carrying an inclined mirror k having a sight-aperture m and an instrument aperture p. The end of the fitting h is closed, partly by a window q and partly by a plate n formed with an aperture o coinciding with the aperture p in the mirror. The fitting h is locked in place by screws and nuts s, s'. Compressed air may be admitted through a cock r, and its escape is prevented by a flexible socket attached to the inserted instrument and fitting closely on a nozzle x, which surrounds the aperture o, or, when an instrument is not in use, by a cap y fitting on the nozzle x. The shaft of the instrument employed, such as a probe, is bent as shown by the dotted line A, Fig. 3. Holes z in the portion a, and passages b' in the plug b prevent overheating.
