Abstract

56. Allen, A. Jan. 1. Impurities, separating from air.-A dust screen for mines &c. comprises a perforated water pipe A, Fig. 8, arranged above a perforated pipe C containing solid disinfectant which is thus carried down the screen in solution. The screen is made of chain, wire, rope, coco-nut fibre, asbestos, bristles, &c., or as shown in Fig. 8, of a series of curved metal strips spaced apart by strips R. In a portable apparatus, a number of the screens are mounted upon a wheeled base, a fan is provided and the purified air is heated by electrical means, or cooled by a refrigerator as desired. In a small portable apparatus, Fig. 7, for use in drilling operations, the drill is enclosed in a hood S connected to the screens G by an inlet pipe F1, the outlet pipe F being led to the roof of the working.
