Abstract

28,336. Scorer, A. B., and Meldrums, Ltd. Dec. 9. Fire-bars and grates. - The clinker is withdrawn from a refuse-destructor furnace, through a doorway the full width of the grate, by means of a rake E which is introduced over the clinker and engages behind it, a space being provided for this purpose by the retraction of a movable back-plate C. The rake is mounted to slide in a carriage F pivoted on trunnions H in a frame depending by a vertical pivot from a truck K running on overhead rails across the fronts of the furnaces. The rake is reciprocated by means of rack-and-pinion gearing and a handle F<1> and the inclination of the carriage F is adjusted by a screwed rod L. Alternatively, the truck K may run on the ground and be provided with two sets of wheels for motion parallel with and at right - angles to the furnace front. To facilitate discharge, the grate may slope towards the doorway and may be formed of channel-bars laid flanges downwards. The invention is specially intended for use with a destructor in which the cells are separated by dwarf hollow walls, as described in Specification 14,753/13.
