Abstract

27,822. Akt.-Ges. der Eisenund Stahlwerke vorm. G. Fischer. Dec. 3, 1912, [Convention date]. Combined buffer and draw gear.-To facilitate coupling on curves, each central buffer coupler-head 4, Fig. 8, is carried by two bars 2, 3, which cross in an horizontal plane and are each pivoted at the inner end to the vehicle and at the outer end to the coupler-head. The inner ends may be pivoted either directly to the vehicle, in which case spring telescopic bars, as shown in Fig. 6, may be used, or to members which are spring-controlled in relation to the vehicle, as shown in Figs. 4, 5, 7, and 8. In the form shown in Fig. 6, each bar 2, 3 is replaced by a tube 30 adapted to slide upon a rod 29 pivoted to the vehicle, a spring 32 being disposed between loose disks 33, 34 which bear against cross-pieces 35, 36 mounted to slide in slots in the tube 30 and rod 29. The spring is therefore compressed under either a pulling or a pushing strain upon the tube 30. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the bars 2, 3 are each pivoted to a bolt 16, mounted in a guide fixed to the vehicle, and upon the reduced rear end of each bolt is provided a buffing and draw spring 22 disposed between disks 20, 21 bearing against the ends of a recess 23 in the guide. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the springs 22 serve also to centralize the coupler-head. To each of the bars 2, 3 is pivoted a rod 26, formed with a slot 27 which engages a projection 28 on the corresponding disk 20, so that a forward swing of the bar is resisted by the spring. Fig. 7 shows another modification in which each bar 2, 3 is pivoted to a link 39 which is pivoted at 41 to a support 40 upon the vehicle. A lever 46, also pivoted at 41, has an arm with a flattened end 46<1> bearing against the link 39, and has also a rounded end which bears against the bar 2 or 3 and against a spring-pressed plunger 43 adapted to slide laterally in the support 40, so that the spring is compressed upon any movement of the bars 2, 3 from the normal position. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the inner ends of the bars 2, 3 are pivoted to a frame 53 and through holes in front and rear cross-bars of this frame is passed a rod 48. The forward end of this rod is mounted to slide in a frame 47 fixed to the vehicle, and the reduced rear end passes through a sleeve 49' mounted to slide in the frame 47, the rear cross-bar of the frame 53 being disposed between this sleeve and a nut 54 upon the rod. A buffing and draw spring 51 is disposed between disks 49, 50 mounted upon the rod 48 in a recess of the frame 47. To allow of compression of the spring also upon lateral deflexion of the bars 2, 3, projections 55 may be provided upon the bars to bear against the forward end of the rod 48.
