Filtering.-The dust that collects in the chamber below a filter-bag is moistened when the suction action ceases, and is subsequently flushed out. The container a is fitted with a cover comprising two parts b, c with intermediate packing d from which depends a curtain g supporting the filter-bag i. A weighted disk m attached to the filter and to a stem allows the filter to be agitated. When the suction is cut off by closing a valve t, a valve o<1> admits water to a pipe o, whence it flows to a pipe n and issues in jets on to the walls p<1> and washes down the dust, which is discharged by opening a weighted flap q. In a modification, the water is admitted tangentially to give a swirling action.
