Abstract

Drills, cutters, and cutter-bars.-Drills for cutting-out washers or for counterboring are formed with the cutting- edges chiefly towards one side by drawing down and flattening the metal of the shank. Fig. 1 shows a washercutter with a recess d having inclined inner edges up which the washer rides when severed, and having also an outwardly bevelled - out cutting-edge so that the plate may not be entirely severed along the line of centres. Fig. 2 shows a drill with cutters c<1>, c<2> for cutting two sizes of washers in one operation. The cutters may be formed to cut dome-shaped washers, or washers of various profiles, which may be knurled by a roller/, Fig. 4, or may be covered by a sheathing of thin sheet metal by the roller. The drills may be shaped for countersinking, and for cutting-out valve seats for pumps, as shown in Fig. 12.
