Abstract

24,159. Calcar, R. P. van, Ellerman, J., and Martijn, H. J. Nov. 29, 1912, [Convention date]. Drying air and gases.-Air for use in hospitals, sanatoria, dwellings, and interiors of all kinds, and stores and depositories in tropical and sub-tropical climates, while being dried by a solid desiccant and sterilized by the solution formed by the desiccant falling in streams is heated or cooled at the same time to bring it to " normal " temperature while it is maintained under high pressure or exhaustion. Fig. 1 shows a modification of the apparatus described in Specification 26,295/11, wherein electric or other heating-means a are disposed in the casing above the perforated trays 2 of desiccant, air being drawn through by a fan, electrically or otherwise driven. The heating-means may occupy the whole width of the casing or be secured to the sides in staggered formation, and they may be above, below, or alternate with the drying-trays. When treating warm moist air, trays of freezing-mixture replace the heating- means. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also the subject-matter of Specifications 4018/14 and 4020/14, which describe apparatus of the same general type wherein the air is introduced in a number of converging streams and directed over or past downwardly-directed baffles over which the liquefied desiccant flows, and wherein a preliminary removal of moisture is effected bv porous or absorbent upwardly-directed baffles in a trough in the lower part of the apparatus supplied with the liquefied desiccant. This subject-matter does not appear in the Speciflcation as accepted.
