Direct air - pressure apparatus, automatic. - In apparatus for raising water, of the type in which alternate compression and rarefa.tion of air is produced in two water-forcing chambers by the raciprocation of a piston in an air-cylinder connected thereto, by-passes are provided at the ends of the air-cylinder to equalize the pressure on opposite sides of the piston at the ends of the stroke ; or in an apparatus with a single forcing- chamber, only one by - pass is used. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the water-forcing chambers are shown at B, B, the air-cylinder at A, and the by-passes at F. A non-return valve D and throttle valve E are provided to make up any leakage of air from the system. The two cbambers may discharge through a single delivery pipe, or through separate pipes C as shown,
