Abstract

23,196. Ottorepetz, V. Oct. 20, 1912, [Convention date]. Sponge substitutes. - Consists in mixing a concentrated solution of a cellulose derivative, such as acetyl - cellulose, nitro - cellulose, or viscose, with fibrous material, and with soluble particles such as salt or sugar, and in dissolving the particles and precipitating the cellulose by immersion in water, with acid, or salt solution, so as to produce a porous sponge substitute. In the preferred form, 20 grammes of cotton fibres are mixed with 280 grammes of concentrated viscose solution, and 400 grammes of fine and 400 grammes of coarse common salt. The pasty mass is then immersed in a 10 per cent acetic acid.
