Abstract

Moulding-machines in which the sand is packed by jarring are operated from a mechanicallyreciprocated piston through a fluid link assisted or not by a spring. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the table slides outside a cylindrical portion of the framing containing the piston c. At the end of the upstroke of the piston, the table rises a short distance and then falls under gravity and strikes the flange e. A non-return valve g permits air to pass freely from the space i to the space f, and may be held open to varying amounts by a screw h to diminish the force of the blow or to render.the table inoperative. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, an auxiliary piston l is interposed between the piston c and the table to receive the jars instead of the frame and foundation. The spaces f, i are connected as in the first-described arrangement.
