Abstract
19,191. Lessing, W. Aug. 23. Granulating.-In an apparatus for granulating slag and like smelting products, for use in the manufacture of cement &c., the liquid slag is projected into a rotating inclined cooling-drum t by means of a disintegrating- wheel m, disposed immediately in front of the cooling-drum and having its axis arranged transversely to that of the drum, air being admitted at the lower end of the drum and withdrawn, together with the gases and vapour evolved from the slag, at the opposite end of the drum, immediately above the disintegrating- wheel. A chimney k may be arranged to draw off the heated air and gases, and the drum, which is provided internally with ribs, may be cooled by water sprays r or by a water jacket. The floor of the housing g surrounding the wheel m is arranged so as to form a water-cooled shoot projecting into the cooling-drum. The steam generated in the water jacket of the drum may be introduced into the drum to render the granulated slag friable.
