Chain-wheels.-A pinion, described as the driving chain-wheel of a cycle &c., is of quadrilateral shape with two opposite sides formed by circular arcs and two other sides rectilinear and parallel to each other. The dimensions employed are such that the minimum radius of the chain-wheel is 0À6 to 0À7 of the maximum radius. Any known means are employed to prevent the chain, in slackening, from leaving the pinion.
