Abstract
18,670. Vincent, W. J., and Rotoplunge Pump Co. Aug. 16. Revolving-cylinder pumps; stroke, varying.- Relates to the radial revolving-cylinder type of pump and motor, and comprises means for varying the stroke, and for connecting the pistons to a rotatable eccentric ring. The cylinder body 2, Fig. 1, rotates between the adjustable partitionmembers 4 in the casing 1. Upon a cylindrical member 6, integral with the side walls of the casing, are mounted an inner eccentric sheave 8, and an outer eccentric sheave 9, these sheaves being geared together by pinions so as to rotate synchronously and thus vary the eccentricity of the ring 15 when required. The roller bearing 16, Figs. 1, 8, and 9, is formed by boring a number of holes 17 for the rollers in a ring, and turning the ring down to a slightly smaller thickness than the diameter of the holes. Links 21 are provided, connecting the ring 15 with the pistons 22, and pins 23 are adapted to drive the ring positively. In a modified method for driving the ring 15, the pins 26 are extended on one side and project into circular holes in the side wall of the rotor. In this construction, all the extendel ends of the projecting pins are po itively driven. In another modification, projections on the ring 15 itself engage in recesses in the periphery of the rotor. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 7, transverse rods 31 in the pistons 22 project through slots 32 in the cylinder body and are connected with the eccentric ring 15 by providing this with curved slots 35. More than one row of cylinders may be employed, and the cylinders may be staggered.
