Wheel-guards.-Each wheel of a motor vehicle is covered by a fixed hood b within which is a movable hood q normally sustained by a latch o. When a feeler j strikes an obstruction, it bends inwards, and a projection n upon it releases the latch o, which is then pressed by a spring q<1> against the wheel so as to cause a rapid descent of the inner hood q. At the front lower end of the inner hood is pivoted a folding carrier v, s. which, when the hood descends, opens out as shown in Fig. 2 and receives the obstruction. A roller w<1> on the front of the carrier rotates in a direction opposite to that of the wheel. The feeler is in two parts jointed together at m.
